Blair Milo featured at Women in Leadership virtual event

Former La Porte Mayor and current Indiana Secretary of Career Connections and Talent Blair Milo will be featured at the Women in Leadership of La Porte County (WILL)’s July 21 meeting.

Milo will address the group via Zoom; the meeting is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. “WILL has decided to meet virtually, as the health of our members is of the utmost importance,” said spokeswoman Nancy Nelson-Taylor.

Milo will present “Leadership During Challenging Times.”

“Great leaders can have the ability to turn obstacles into opportunities, including those presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Strong leadership is critical as Indiana moves forward and business, education, and community leaders continue to navigate these challenges. We have the unique opportunity to not only rebuild but also to establish stronger communities and resilient Hoosiers through collaboration and innovation,” said Nelson-Taylor.

Milo is the state’s first secretary for career connections and talent, and is working to fill an estimated one million job openings over the next 10 years. Milo also serves on the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet, a body dedicated to shaping education and workforce training for a 21st century workforce. Milo began serving  as La Porte’s mayor in 2011 and was re-elected in 2015. She is also a veteran, having served as a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy.
