LCSO musician spotlight: Cindy Ault

Cindy Ault, principal bassoonist with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, will be entering her 38th year as a member of the LCSO.

Cindy began music at an early age and played the bassoon through college. She put the instrument away for a while until LCSO’s Interim Music Director, Chuck Steck, encouraged her to start playing again — and the rest of history.

When not performing, Cindy can be found at Kesling Intermediate School, where she has taught math for 21 years. In addition to teaching, Cindy has served as the yearbook advisor for 19 years and the student council sponsor for 20 years. In fact, in 2015, Cindy was recognized as a National Finalist for the Warren E. Shull Student Council Advisor of the Year.

Cindy is also very active in 4-H and was recently inducted into the La Porte County 4-H Leaders Hall of Fame. As if this weren’t enough, Cindy is also a member of the South Shore Orchestra, La Porte City Band, and the Michigan City Municipal Band.

She and husband, Tom, have four adult children, all of whom went through the music program in the La Porte Community School Corporation. A native of West Lafayette, Ind. and a graduate of Purdue University, Cindy also can be found working on her family’s farm. Her personal mantra is “How Can I Help Others?”
