La Portean George Boardman to pitch at Four Winds Field July 21

La Portean George “Boardy” Boardman will be pitching in the Indiana “Futures Games” on Tuesday, July 21 at Four Winds Field in South Bend, Ind.

This is an annual game organized as an invite-only one-day tournament of 60 players from across Indiana, selected by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA). Players are mostly rising high school seniors.

Boardman will be a senior at Culver Military Academy, Culver, Ind. this fall. Boardman is said to love all aspects of pitching and has a disciplined training regiment.

As a freshman at CMA baseball (3A), Boardman earned a varsity letter as a starting pitcher. As a sophomore, he earned Culver’s Most Valuable Pitcher Award. Between sophomore and junior years, during the summer of 2019, George pitched for USA Baseball’s Team “Freedom” in Florida.

As a freshman when Boardman pitched against Plymouth baseball (4A), Plymouth radio announcer Rusty Nixon is said to have commented:

“Pilgrims have not had a good look at this guy all night…that’s what pitching is all about. George Boardman trying to get a win here taking a shutout into the 5th…frustrating night at the plate for the Pilgrims who have just three hits. Has been around the plate with all of his pitches has got the Pilgrims baffled right now.”

Boardman explained his approach to the game: “I have played many sports, from hockey to tennis, swimming, football, basketball and golf to name a few, but I love every aspect of pitching.”

“I am very thankful to my parents, brother, and friends who are behind me. I am very appreciative that Culver Coach Kurt Christiansen encouraged me to be a leader and gave me the opportunity to pitch varsity at Culver so early, as a freshman.”

This summer Boardman has been training with Chadd Blasko at the South Bend First Source Performance Center. “Chadd has taken my pitching to the next level, adding speed to the several pitches that I have developed. Chadd is an incredible instructor.”

Boardman is also pitching for the South Bend Cubs 18U and American Legion Post 151, both in South Bend, this summer.

Boardman is an honors student at CMA and currently has a 3.82/4.00 GPA and a SAT score of 1410. He is scheduled to graduate in June 2021 with honors in entrepreneurship, three honors math courses, and eight AP courses. He has earned the CMA rank of 1st Lieutenant and will be on the regimental staff as regimental aide to administration this fall.
