Heather Stevens: this year’s HannaFest is canceled

Scenes from HannaFest 2019 …

HannaFest Chairwoman Heather Stevens has announced that, in spite of her best hopes for the festival, the annual event will not take place in 2020.

“It is with great disappointment that I am announcing that HannaFest is cancelling this year’s festival,” Stevens said. “While most festival committees chose to cancel early on, we decided to move forward with our planning, knowing that we would have to be flexible and willing to make changes due to COVID-19.”

She added: “We also knew that we would have to be working closely with our County Health Department as we kept an eye on local numbers and guidelines. That is exactly what we did. Our goal through this has been to provide a fun, safe, and responsible event for Hanna and the surrounding areas. With the increase of positive Covid-19 cases in South County, we no longer feel that gathering for HannaFest 2020 would be in the best interest of our community.”

Stevens said that none of the decisions that have been made this year were made lightly. “This was a tough call all the way around. We are thankful for the new volunteers who have stepped up to help and hope that each of them will continue to be supportive as we begin plans for HannaFest 2021. It is great to see HannaFest continue to grow.”

Stevens said that the “Summer Heat” street dance is separate from HannaFest right now and organizers will be meeting this week to finalize their decisions.
