Patricia Ann Martin, 1940-2020

Patricia Ann Martin, 80, of La Porte, Ind. passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born Feb. 3, 1940 in Rolling Prairie, Ind. to Garl and Lois (Benson) Nichols.

A baptized and confirmed Catholic, Patricia was a lifelong resident of La Porte who worked as a machinist at American Rubber until her retirement. Following retirement she worked part-time at Goodwill industries to keep herself busy. Patricia enjoyed bowling, sponsored by House of Color, and playing softball for Red Rooster Tavern and Galloway Shell. She was an active member of the Polish National Alliance and visited many of their clubs. Patricia had a wonderful blown glass collection, liked gardening, especially her tomatoes, and was proud of all her cars, the most recent being her Ford Fiesta. One of her greatest joys as a grandmother and great-grandmother was spoiling them all, as well as attending their sporting events and school programs. She also loved “granddog” sitting for the Yorkies!

Survivors include son, Charles “Chuck” (Pamela) Carroll of La Porte; daughter, Camille “Cammy” (David) Wilber of North Liberty, Ind.; brother, Roger (Marquetta) Nichols of Big Stone Gap, Va.; grandchildren, Paul (Kristen) Kabacinski of Walkerton, Caryn (Josue) Campos of Beaufort, S.C., Brian (Melissa) Carroll of Ft Wayne, Ind. and Angela Carroll (fiance, Kyle Mueller) of Indianapolis, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Rylee, Owyn, Aiden, Andres, Austin, Taylor, and Schivana; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Leonard, Roland, Archie, James, William, and Robert Nichols; and sisters, Rose Harkleroad (Bill), Barbara and Elsie Nichols.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 1 at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where a celebration of life service will be held at noon with Father Nate Edquist, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will take place at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Ind.

Due to Indiana and La Porte County executive orders, masks will be required for anyone attending these ceremonies.

I was fortunate to have worked with Patricia at American Rubber Products for many years. Patricia was a good person with a ready smile and kind word. My condolences to her family for your loss.
