Sentimental Journey has arrived … and the Sifords remember another time it landed

The World War II aircraft B-17 Flying Fortress Sentimental Journey arrived early Tuesday evening at the La Porte Municipal Airport, after bad weather forced a one-day delay in the planned landing. Among those on hand to greet the aircraft was Michael Siford, who took this shot.

The fully-restored B-17 bomber is at the airport, courtesy of the Commemorative Air Force’s Airbase Arizona, and is open to the pubic for ground tours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Thursday, Aug. 12-13; and 2 to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Aug. 14-16.

The public can also experience a living history flight in the aircraft on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those interested in scheduling a ride may book online at www.azcaf.org/tour or call 480-462-2992.

The La Porte Municipal Airport is located at 2341 Ind. 39.

A WNLP news story and photos to follow …

And this is not the aircraft’s visit to the airport. Michael and Amy Siford took their sons (then ages four and six, now thirty-one and thirty-three) to see the Sentimental Journey. “Colton, our 31-year-old, is scheduled to go on a ride Saturday morning. It was so fun to see how many from the community lined the air field to watch it land last night,” Amy writes WNLP.
