Juvenile bicyclist injured in hit-and-run

Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that injured a juvenile riding a bicycle along CR-400 West in rural Springfield Township Thursday evening.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department said that Deputies Micah Hatley and Wade Wallace were dispatched to the 6000 north block of CR 400 West around 9:15 p.m. in response to a report of a crash involving a bicyclist. When the officers arrived they found an injured juvenile was lying on the road. The vehicle that struck the bicyclist had left the scene.

The bicyclist had been traveling northbound on CR 400 West and was struck from behind by a northbound passenger vehicle.  The vehicle was later located and impounded by deputies after it was found parked at a residence on CR-500 West, police said.

The juvenile sustained an upper body injury and was airlifted to a regional area hospital for treatment.
