LCSO musician spotlight: Jenn Mount

A La Porte High School math teacher who has taught students for 35 years also shares her musical skills as a violist with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra.

Jenn Mount grew up in Porter County and was involved in both sports and music at Portage High School. Jenn made All State Honors Orchestra her sophomore, junior and senior years before going on to Ball State University, where she earned an education degree with an emphasis in math.

She is now in her 36th year of teaching and her 35th year of teaching math at La Porte High School. She has also served as coach for the volleyball, basketball and softball teams.

In 2011, after not playing the viola for a number of years, Jenn decided to try her hand at the instrument again, taking lessons from LPHS Orchestra Director Pete Collins. She soon joined Pete as a member of the LCSO’s viola section.

Jenn’s hobbies include bicycling, golfing, cross country hiking and kayaking. When visiting her parents in Arizona, Jenn can be found taking frequents hiking trips in the Huachuca Mountains. Jenn also loves her time with her dogs, Rudy and Paco.

    Awesome article! Good for you, Jenn! You can still out-hike me in places of South Dakota I’m very familiar with! I’d live to hear you play the viola again one day! ❤
