Girls varsity volleyball

The Slicers defeated Fairfield in two swift sets for the first match of the LaPorte Invite Saturday. Justine Talbert led with 4 aces. Paige Conklin and Olivia Voelker each notched 5 kills. Olivia Voelker led the team with 9 digs.

Slicers defeated Mishawaka 2-0 in the last match of pool play. Stat leaders for the match were: Olivia Voelker and Aniya Kennedy with 7 kills each, Halle Seaburg and Paige Conklin with 11 assists each, and Lesley Marshall with 13 digs.

Slicers defeated Carroll 2-0 in an intense match full of long rallies. Stat leaders for the match were: Paige Conklin with 11 assists, Halle Seaburg with 4 aces, Lesley Marshall with 15 digs, and Aniya Kennedy with 9 kills.

The Slicers then fell to Munster in the championship match. The Slicers battled hard in the first set to overcome Munster’s lead of 24-21 and win the set 29-27. The match was full of long rallies and hustle plays. Slicers went 3-1 in the LaPorte Invitational.

Girls varsity golf

The Slicers put on a strong showing at the Pat Ford Invitational held at Beechwood Friday. Leading LaPorte in scoring was Abby Casto’s 92, Molly Menne’s 94, Gabby Hull’s 96, and Jayme Noll’s 100. Medalist honors for the tournament went to Reese Wilson of Culver with an impressive 75. The Slicers will travel to Sand Creek on Monday for the DAC tournament.

Boys varsity football

LaPorte High School Varsity Football fell to Chesterton High School 45-21 Friday. The visiting Trojans spoiled Senior Night by jumping out to a 35-7 halftime lead.

Boys varsity cross country

Slicers finished fourth at the Bob Thomas Invitational Saturday. Junior Cole Raymond took home the 2020 Bob Thomas Invite Title with a wire-to-wire 1st place overall finish. Against an impressive field, Raymond set the pace early, and never looked back; finishing with an overall time of 16:06. Not far behind was teammate Sam Bell’s 3rd place overall finish of 16:34. Also scoring for the Slicers was Jay Pillai (24/17:45), John Groth (31/18:00), and Stevie Klimczak (33/18:05). Crown Point won the team competition with a total score of 34 points.

In the Reserve Race, the Slicers saw four runners finish in the top 20: Mason Tulacz (7th/18:38), Braiden Dolph (8th/18:41), Preston Peterson (15/18:59), and Teddy Merle’s (19/19:06).

Next week, the Slicers travel to New Carlisle to compete in the Prestigious New Prairie Invitational.

Girls varsity cross country

Sophomore Brenna Sobecki and Senior Ella Bensz ran side by side for most of the race on Saturday to earn 4th and 5th place respectively at the Bob Thomas Invitational, where the Slicers placed sixth. Brenna’s time of 19:39, and Ella’s 19:40 mark back to back weeks of sub 20 minute 5k’s. Also scoring for the Slicers was Arianna Steele (26/ 20:48), Ella Dubbs (39/21:44), and Alli Bender (46/22:24). Lowell’s Karina James won the race with a time of 18:27, and Chesterton won the team competition with a score of 61.

In the reserve race, the Lady Slicers saw 5 runners in the top 22, with Laramie Lilly (8/22:37), Peyton Willoughby (10/22:43), and Reghan Stephany (11/22:49) finishing in the top 15.

Next week, the Slicers travel to New Carlisle to compete in the Prestigious New Prairie Invite.
