LCSO musician spotlight: Dave Ratajik



Rumor has it that La Porte County Symphony Orchestra’s Dave Ratajik can play any musical instrument with an attached reed. For the past 6 years, he has been seen playing clarinet and saxophone parts with the LCSO in a variety of concerts.

Dave also plays with the La Porte City Band, St. Joseph Municipal Band, Andrews University Orchestra and the Tom Milo Big Band.

Dave began his career as an elementary classroom teacher and eventually became a school principal. Having a doctorate in education, he has also served as academic improvement consultant at the local, regional and national levels. Dave has also been on active and reserve duty with the U.S. Army. His deployments have included Europe, the Pacific and Central America.

He is now retired as a full colonel. Dave and his wife, Susan, have been married for 56 years, have two children and five grandchildren, including a set of triplets.
