Howmet confirms more layoffs, bringing eventual total to 265

Inside Indiana Business has confirmed today that more workers will lose their jobs at La Porte’s Howmet Aerospace plant:

“Pittsburgh-based Howmet Aerospace (NYSE: HWM) has notified the state it will be laying off another 150 employees from its La Porte plant due to a cancellation of customer orders stemming from the pandemic. The company already laid off 115 La Porte workers during the last week of August.

“Howmet’s La Porte plant produces castings for aerospace and gas turbine applications. In a WARN notice, the company said the layoffs will occur in two phases. The first group of approximately 85 employees will be permanently laid off the first week of October. Another group of 65 workers will be laid off in early November.

“Howmet said it could not “reasonably foresee” the cancellation of customer orders that negatively impacted business operations.”

I wonder if they are still going to get a tax break for the jobs they created and then eliminated ? We are building high dollar housing but have no decent paying jobs in LP. How is a person making 12-15 bucks an hour supposed to pay 1200-1500 a month for rent???
