The La Porte Catholic community is planning a pet blessing for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 on the lawn located west of the old school building at Sacred Heart Church.

The day before, Oct. 6, “is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order and name sake of our current Holy Father, Pope Francis,” said Deacon Frank J. Zolvinski. “To honor his ministry, love of nature and works of charity there will be a blessing of the animals.”

Participants are asked to make sure pets are properly leashed, caged or controlled. Pet owners are asked to wear face masks and to keep socially distanced.

Pet treats will be available.
