
Siad Berry
Indiana State Police announced Dec. 4 that charges have been filed against Siad H. Berry II, 42, from Knox, who fired shots at La Porte County officers on Thanksgiving evening Nov. 26.
The charges are:
- Attempted Murder- Level 1 Felony (3 counts)
- Aggravated Battery- Level 3 Felony (2 counts)
- Criminal Recklessness- Level 5 Felony
Berry is being held at the La Porte County Jail, where his bond was set at $100,000 cash.
Sheriff’s officers shot and wounded Berry after he shot at them.
The sheriff’s office had received a report of shots being fired in the 7000-8000 block of CR-500W at about 5:15 p.m. When deputies arrived, the man immediately began firing at them, with a police vehicle being struck by the gunfire. The deputies returned fire, striking the man. They gave him first aid before he was transported to Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
At the request of the La Porte County Sheriff John Boyd, the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division was contacted to investigate the incident.
Other responding emergency units were from the Michigan City Police Department, Long Beach Police, Trail Creek Police, Springfield Township Fire Department, and La Porte County EMS.
