Cougar gymnasts take 2nd at Lake Central dual

The New Prairie gymnastics team took 2nd at the Lake Central dual meet on Dec. 29. Individual results:

Vault — Ava Surratt 7.5, Silvia Small 7.65, Molly Lenig and Anna Jasnieski 8.3 (tie for 6th place)

Bars — Molly Lenig 5.25, Ava Surratt 5.35, Anna Jasnieski 7.4 (5th place)

Beam — Ava Surratt 3.8, Silvia Small 4.75, Anna Jasnieski 6.5, Molly Lenig 6.75

Floor — Silvia Small and Ava Surratt 6.95, Molly Lenig 7.9, Anna Jasnieski 8.45 (6th place)

All Around – Ava Surratt 23.6, Molly Lenig 28.2 (6th place), Anna Jasnieski 30.65 (4th place)

NPHS Team Score: 83.55

Lake Central: 106.9

New Prairie girls basketball team advances to championship game but loses to Lake Station, 51-39  

At the La Porte County Holiday Tournament championship game in Michigan City Dec. 30, the New Prairie girls started off strong in the first quarter, leading Lake Station Edison, 12-1. But little by little, the Eagles capitalized on the Cougars’ fatigue.

New Prairie sophomore Eva Skye Dodds and senior Jordan Winters handled the pressure put on by Lake Station but overall, the team was unable to keep up. The Lady Cougars as a team competed hard and represented New Prairie in a battle in the championship game.

Conference play resumes this Tuesday with a trip to Penn.

Reminder: LPHS sports attendance rules tightened 

As a reminder to all Slicer fans, attendance at all Slicer home events will be limited to participants, support personnel and immediate family members per Indiana Department of Health recommendations. Neither the general public nor student fans will be allowed admittance to home events. Due to these restrictions, Slicer passes and/or DAC passes will not be honored for admittance to LPHS athletic events.

Links to purchase tickets will be sent out to family members via Final Forms prior to each athletic contest. TICKETS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AT THE DOOR. All tickets must be purchased in advance.  

Following is some additional information for the week of Jan. 4:

— Slicer swim meet at Lake Central Monday will be limited to 2 spectators per swimmer. A link to purchase tickets will be provided on Monday.

— Visiting spectators will not be allowed at the Lowell JV and varsity boys basketball games Jan. 5. The game will be live streamed and the following link:


— The link to purchase tickets to the freshman girls basketball game Jan. 6 has been sent to girls basketball parents.  

— No information concerning Slicer gymnastics at Chesterton has yet been provided.  

— No restrictions are in place, at this time, for boys freshman, JV and varsity basketball games at Lake Central on Jan. 8.

— No restrictions are in place, at this time, for the girls freshman, JV and varsity basketball games at Lake Central on Jan. 9.

— Swimming and diving at Hobart will be limited to two spectators per swimmer (parents/guardians; no siblings). Additional information on how this will be handled will be forthcoming.

— Slicer girls basketball games Tuesday and Thursday will be live streamed. Slicer fans may use the following link to view the games:

New Prairie gymnasts finish 6th at Elkhart holiday Invitational

The NPHS girls varsity gymnasts competed at the first Elkhart Holiday Invitational on Jan. 2. Eight schools were represented: Angola, Lakeland, Plymouth, Wawasee, Morgan Township, Northwood, New Prairie, and Elkhart.

New Prairie started strong on Vault with Silvi Small (8.0), Anna Jasnieski (8.4, placing 7th), and Molly Lenig (8.6, placing 5th). Improvements were made on Uneven Bars and Balance Beam for the Cougars with Anna Jasnieski finishing 10th on bars (tie) and beam. Senior Molly Lenig showcased her floor routine, hitting all three tumbling passes and placing 9th (tie) with a score of 8.15. Freshman Anna Jasnieski finished 6th place in All Around. The Cougars ended with a 6th-place team finish.

Angola topped the team scores for first place, with Elkhart High School following in second.

Cougar wrestlers finish 9th at IHSWCA State Duals

New Prairie came back to beat Norwell and Wawasee to earn 9th place at the 2021 wrestling team state competition.

Going undefeated on the day were Daniel Lukowski, Michael Rodriguez and Hunter Whitenack. Sealing the final match was John Klosinski.

Reluctantly, Coach Luther gave the belt up, wanting one more shot at the title. 

Congratulations to Ayden Dang, who earned the belt at team state.
