Kellems’ photos above and below show motorists’ damage to a homeowner’s property.

Can we talk?
As you’re well aware, starting on New Year’s Eve, Old Man Winter made a visit and left an angry calling card in La Porte County. Rain, followed by cold, followed by ice, followed by snow, left thousands without power — some for three days or more. Many of the outages resulted from falling limbs and large trees toppling, bringing down utility poles and lots of power lines.

But all in all, I’d say we fared pretty well. I’m here to share a different frustration.
As I headed to work Sunday morning, I found that Wozniak Road was closed between CR-100S and CR-125S because of a downed tree. The fallen tree, completely blocking the road, also snapped a utility pole. Amongst the mess were tangled power lines. Definitely something to avoid, and absolutely something to be left to the professionals. I made my way around the detour and arrived at work a few minutes later than normal.
When I went back that way after work I found the roadway still blocked. However, in the daylight I saw that several “do gooders” had driven around the barricades, the road-closed signs and the fallen tree mess and through the yard of a house along the road. I’ve included a few photos here of the damage done to the yard, taken by some of our fellow citizens.
Now that I’ve painted a picture of the scene, I have a question: What in the name of all that is holy would possess someone to do this? The road closure was well marked and the detour would take you just a few miles out of your way. More importantly, the land that was damaged was not, and is not, yours!
Because of a few impatient, impertinent and disrespectful people, not only did this homeowner have to suffer through three days with no power, but is also left with hundreds of dollars of damage.
For those who paid no heed to the “road closed” signs, drove through and did damage to the yard and disrespected a neighbor, I say this: You’re an idiot!

Entitled people are my least favorite. Why should they have to detour and waste their time??? Since it is obvious that the property owner pushed that tree down to block the road as well as not have any power. God forbid we thought of anyone else other than ourselves.

It’s a shame this homeowner didn’t paint a piece of plywood black and put a 100 nail and screws in it and accidently drop it by the barricade ????

Then the home owner would end up paying for new tires. You have no rights anymore as a property owner.
