Starting Jan. 19, individuals can be tested for the COVID-19 virus for free at the La Porte County Health Department office in Michigan City, 302 W. 8th St., Suite 4.
The City of La Porte’s free test site at the Civic Auditorium remains open through the end of January.
Hours for testing at the Michigan City site will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. Beginning Jan. 30, appointments will also be available every other Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The free tests are available to all members of the public regardless of symptoms. Children as young as 2 can be tested with parental consent. Individuals under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To make a test appointment, visit scheduling.coronavirus.in.gov. For test results or more information, call 1-877-826-0011. Please quarantine yourself from others as much as possible while you wait for your test results to prevent the spread of infection in case your test comes back positive.

Why can’t we have a site available in LaPorte after January 31st. That is when the roads and weather are at its worst. Don’t understandd why we have to go to Michigan Ciy.
