Man sustains cuts during robbery in Michigan City


A 40-year-old man was battered by a robber on Jan. 15 at about 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Center Street, Michigan City, police said.

Michigan City Police responded to a call of a robbery and found the man bleeding severely from lacerations to his head and hand. They learned the robber and the victim were together at a residence in the 100 block of Blaine Street earlier during the day, and the suspect took personal  property from the victim during a fight.

LaPorte County EMS  transported the victim to Franciscan Health Michigan City where he was treated for non-lifethreatening injuries. 

A witness was interviewed and evidence was collected. Detectives continue to interview witnesses, search for video surveillance and process evidence, according to a MCPD press release. Anyone who  may have witnessed the incident, has more information, or has video surveillance/cell phone video is asked to call Detective Melissa Sopher at (219) 874-3221, Extension 1049.  

Other responding emergency units were from Michigan City Fire Department and LaPorte County EMS.
