Sharon Eskridge, 1936-2021


Sharon J. Eskridge, 84, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at Miller’s Health and Rehabilitation in New Carlisle, Ind.

She was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Shelby, Ind., the daughter of Vergil and Bernice (Kendall) Luchene.

A resident of the area since 1955, Sharon was a member of La Porte Missionary Church as well as a member of The Assembly of God Church. She worked for Kinney Shoes as an assistant manager, retiring after 32 years.  Sharon had many interests in life. She enjoyed quilting for the church and being a missionette leader with the Assembly of God Church. She loved cleaning the church with her husband for many years as well. While her family was her greatest passion,  Sharon also enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking (not cooking, that was her husband’s role), reading, craft work, and traveling, going to such places as Branson, Mo., with her husband, Gene.

On Sept. 17, 1955, in Michigan City, Ind., she married Gene Eskridge, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Terry and Kenneth Luchene; and a grandson, Daniel E. Clough.

Sharon is survived by her daughters, Darla (Steven) Clough of Highland Village, Tex., Dayna Stacy of Jackson, Ky., and Monica (Wes) Juszkiewicz of La Porte; brother, Kevin Luchene of Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 grandchildren Krystal, Benjamin, Blake, Adam, Amber, Tara, Nick, Christopher, James, and Tammy; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte. A life celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeffrey Starkey officiating. Interment will follow at the Swan Lake Mausoleum, Michigan City, Ind. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks must be worn and social distancing observed when attending these events. Memorial contributions may be made in Sharon’s honor to La Porte Missionary Church, 104 E. 18th St., La Porte, Ind. 46350.

    Darla, Dayna and Monica,

    My prayers go out to all of you for peace and comfort. Sharon is now where she longed to be, with her Father in Heaven, her Savior Jesus Christ, and the love of her life here on Earth, Gene-O! RIP Sharon!
