Healthcare Foundation of LP lists accomplishments since 2017 — $17 million+ worth


Five years ago the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte was a brand-new foundation, created with proceeds from the sale of La Porte Hospital. HFL President and CEO Maria Fruth, her staff, and a board of directors had their work cut out for them. 

They set about looking at other foundations around the country, then came back to assess the La Porte community’s needs. They established policies and procedures, chose a trusted investment partner, and found software to assist the foundation with its grant-making processes. 

The first grant cycle was launched a year later, and by the end of 2020, the HFL had invested over $17 million in the community, awarding grants to non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the area’s residents. 

HFL has now released its “Report to the Community,” a comprehensive document that showcases the many local organizations that have received grants since 2017. That report can be found at
