LP County Career and Technical Center now taking applications

The La Porte County Career and Technical Education Center (AK Smith) is now taking applications for the next school year. Students from La Porte, LaCrosse, Michigan City, New Buffalo, New Prairie, South Central, and Westville high schools are eligible for enrollment.

The students remain enrolled in their current high school and their school provides transportation for these students to and from the career center.  These programs are at no cost to the students except for book fees. The home high school pays the tuition.

Classes are for juniors and seniors in Automotive Services, Construction Technology, Energy, Machining, Welding, Health Sciences, CNA, Criminal Justice, Fire Science, EMT, Culinary, Education Professions, and Cosmetology. Classes offer dual college credits and industry-based certifications.

The center is located at 817 Lafayette St., Michigan City.

I am so glad to see that they are still offering this choice at schools. There are some great career options out there.

We have had homeschooled students. Please contact me at the school and I can explain how it works.
