Auto racing at the La Porte County Fair, circa 1915, at the I Street fairgrounds location (now the location of La Porte High School).

Pictured here is the Andrew-Zimmerman house that was located at 918 I St., the current location of Beacon Health. Built in about 1855 by Dr. George Andrew, it was more than 4,000 square feet in area. Long thought to be haunted, stories abound of a ringing doorbell, noises, coins dropping on the floor, and even stranger occurrences at the I Street Clinic (predecessor to Beacon) after the clinic’s construction.

At left is Dr. Eber L. Annis (1860-1938), physician and surgeon, who graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago in the Class of 1881 and began practicing in La Porte at the age of 20. He resided at 205 Rumely St. and had offices at the Masonic Temple Building. At right is Dr. Harry J. Thompson (1869-1934), physician and surgeon. His offices were at 707 Maple with his residence at 706 Maple, across from the current location of the YMCA.
