La Porte man arrested after denting squad car with his head

A La Porte man was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Syringe (Level 6 Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor) and Criminal Mischief (Class B Misdemeanor) after he became upset and dented a squad car with his head, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 5 a.m. Feb. 6, Deputy Austin Wells was at U.S. 35 and Jefferson Avenue when he saw a man standing next to a snow-covered, parked car. When the man saw Wells, he began walking away from the car.  In the 1000 block of Jefferson Avenue, Wells stopped the man, who was then walking in the middle of the street. Wells said the man, identified as Ryan J. Faatuai, 36, showed odd behavior and his responses did not make any sense.

As Wells and fellow Deputies Jet Balenia and David Grimberg tried to handcuff Faatuai, he became agitated and slammed his head against a squad car hood, leaving a dent. Eventually, he agreed to cooperate with the deputies.

He was being held in La Porte County Jail without bond.
