1921

There were three deaths from typhus and 20 cases of typhus among the 1,375 passengers on an Italian liner that arrived in New York. The vessel will be held at Quarantine indefinitely.

1971

The quake death toll hits 43 in the Los Angeles area and aftershocks are continuing.

1996

President Clinton signs the defense bill while condemning its requirement that service members living with AIDS be discharged.

2011

State Reps. Tom Dermody and Scott Pelath voted recently to repeal a law that requires clerks in stores to check the identification of all people buying carry-out alcohol.
