Moments in Time … in photographs

Here are “Rosies the Riveters” at work at Dwyer Products in Michigan City, circa 1940s. Dwyer Products manufactured compact kitchens for apartments, offices and hotels. During World War II, Dwyer made 40mm ammunition containers for the Navy.

In 1918, HMH Air Service gave plane rides for $1.50 from a pasture just south of La Porte. In this photo the pilot is in the cockpit.

Members of the local Grand Army of the Republic Quartette in 1895 were Harry C. Shannon, Rev. E.D. Daniels, Austin Cutler and Major Aurand. The Grand Army of the Republic was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army, Union Navy, Marines, and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the Civil War. Austin Cutler was the last living Civil War veteran in La Porte.
