Felon arrested after waving gun in the air, fleeing police in La Porte

A convicted felon from La Porte was caught after waving a handgun in the air, then fleeing on foot from police.

According to a La Porte County Drug Task Force release, officers from the task force were returning from surveillance duty on Feb. 16 when they saw a man walk out the front door of his house in the 100o block of Washington Street, La Porte, and wave a high-capacity magazine handgun in the air. They recognized the man as felon Anthony Sanders, 33.

While walking to a car Sanders spotted the officers. He started to run with the gun still in his hand, at one point falling into a snow bank. He ran again, then threw the gun into the snow. He was then apprehended. Police recovered the gun.

Sanders was  charged with Serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Level 4 Felony) and Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor). He was being held in La Porte County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond.

”they recognized the man as a felon” if he is that easily recognized, then why was he walking out streets???? this system is like a merry go round. our officers go into harms way to arrest them and they are out and around in no time. how MANY times do read that they are out on bond for a previous crime???

If you read and comprehend, it states he was a convicted felon. That means he served his time. We give people second chances. This is an obvious parole violation. Now, there are plenty non-felons around, that the police would recognize. It does not say anywhere in the article, that he was out on bond.
