LP woman arrested for OWI after alleged false report of road rage damage

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday, Feb. 19, at 3:33 a.m., deputies were dispatched to U.S. 20 and Fail Road regarding a reported road rage incident. A woman had called 911 and said her vehicle had been rammed by another vehicle. She provided a description of the suspect vehicle and said both vehicles were still traveling east on U.S. 20.

Captain Andy Hynek located both vehicles traveling east on Ind. 2 near CR-800E. He stopped the suspect vehicle at Ind. 2 and CR-850E. Deputies Austin Wells and John Roby, Jr., arrived and spoke to the alleged victim, who had stopped just east of the initial traffic stop.

Wells and Roby identified the victim as Delana K. Romano, 28, of La Porte. Deputies found no evidence of damage on the vehicles. They also learned that the driver of the accused damaging vehicle was Romano’s boyfriend.

Deputies suspected that Romano was impaired by alcohol and conducted an operating-while-intoxicated (OWI) investigation. She was charged with OWI (C Misdemeanor) and was being held in the La Porte County Jail on a $205 cash-only bond.
