1921

Attempts to restore the teaching of the German language in the public schools of Indiana were given a final knockout blow today by the Indiana General Assembly.

1971

James Snyder of 1033 Indiana Ave. files as a candidate for mayor of La Porte on the Democratic ticket.

1996

Republican Patricia Lain will run for the State Senate’s 8th District seat with the hope of replacing State Sen. Anita Bowser, D-Michigan City.

2011

La Porte County Jail Commander Scott Bell suggests that a new jail, costing between $50 million and $100 million, be built sometime in the not-too-distant future.

    LaPorte may look small, however it has a big history of family life, industry and businesses. It is up to us to create a new history for the future generations by getting businesses and industry to entice the young people to stay. We must all work together and work with the Mayor to accomplish this.
