3 La Porte County Jail deputies promoted to rank of corporal

La Porte County Sheriff John T. Boyd and Jail Commander/Captain Al Ott officially announce the recent promotions of three jail deputies to the rank of corporal.

Corporal Jamie Davis (soon to be Jamie Eguia) was hired by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 18, 2018. She graduated from Michigan City High School in 2000 and is a U.S. Army veteran. Corporal Davis has four children, one of whom, Jaiden Wahl, is a 2020 Neil Thompson Scholarship Award winner. Corporal Davis is assigned to the Afternoon Shift, where she’ll serve as a supervisor. She resides in rural La Porte County.

Corporal Emilie Van Syoc was hired on Nov. 12, 2019. She graduated from Hanover Central High School in 2016 and continued her studies by attending Purdue University Northwest. During the fall semester of 2019, Corporal Van Syoc completed an internship with the sheriff’s office. She graduated from PNW in December 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology-Criminal Justice.  She is assigned to the Midnight Shift, where she’ll serve as a supervisor. She is married and resides in rural La Porte County.

Corporal Eric Murray was hired on Oct. 24, 2017. He graduated from Portage High School in 2010. Prior to joining the sheriff’s office, he was an employee for the Indiana Department of Correction. Corporal Murray is assigned to the Afternoon Shift, where he’ll serve as a supervisor. He is married, has two children, and resides in Portage.

Ott said, “I am extremely proud of Corporals Davis, Van Syoc and Murray. They have proven to be leaders and these promotions are well-deserved advancements in their careers. I publicly congratulate each of them.”

The corporal positions were available as the result of one vacancy, one inner Jail Division transfer and one inner agency promotion and transfer from the Jail Division to the Merit Division.
