Calvin Johnson, 1969-2021


Calvin Lee Johnson, 51, of Kingsford Heights, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 2 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, in his home.

He was born March 26, 1969, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Ray Dean and Irene Gloria (Koepke) Johnson.

Calvin was a 1988 graduate of La Porte High School. He was a member of the Kingsford Heights American Legion, through his father. Calvin enjoyed taking daily nature drives and taking his favorite baby girl fishing. He played horseshoes and would spend Friday nights at Thunderbird Lanes bowling with the Mad Hatters. In the late 1990s, Calvin coached KVA Little League teams the Sluggers and Pirates with his friend Chris Wallen. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan who loved spending time with his family. Calvin liked to shoot pool and sing karaoke. He was a man who worked hard and loved his family.

On March 23, 1991, in La Porte, Ind., he married Michelle Lorraine Carlson, who survives.

Also surviving are his four children, Nicholas, Alexis and Austin Johnson, all of Kingsford Heights, and Shiana Johnson of La Porte; mother-in-law, Lori Alexader (Mike Reder) of La Porte; one grandchild, Vela Jacko of La Porte; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and lifelong friend, Chris Wallen of Kingsford Heights.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Debbie Johnson; and two infant brothers, David and Larry Johnson.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

    Calvin was a great guy. One of my first best friends in elementary school, and have been life-long friends ever since. It was a privilege knowing him. My condolences to the entire Johnson family. 😥

    Calvin was my Nephew by marriage, I stayed in touch with him . He except me always. He was a good Man, Husband, Father and Grandpa! He’ll be truly missed! Love and prayers to Family and Friends🙏! R.I.P. 😥💕
