Live, rhapsodic music fills the Civic on an early spring afternoon

There has perhaps been no better sign of spring 2021 than the sweet sound of live music emerging from the La Porte Civic Auditorium Sunday, March 14. The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra heralded a hint of normalcy returning to the Arts with its belated celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday. First, however, came pianist Carey Scheck’s and the orchestra’s riveting performance of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” which drew a standing ovation. Scheck (3rd photo below), a music teacher for the La Porte schools, earned piano performance degrees from Valparaiso University and Western Illinois University.  Then Bravo, Maestro! Conductor Candidate Wilbur Lin (1st and 11th photos below) led the orchestra in its performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.
