City park department has kayak lockers for rent at Stone Lake

Park department photo and press release

Last month, the City of La Porte Park Board approved renting out lockers as part of the kayak launch on Stone Lake Beach. The initial offer is to lease each locker for $500 per year with a three-year commitment or $1,350 if paying for three years up front.

The lockers (similar to the lockers seen in the photo above) are 35.5 inches x 18.5 inches x 15 feet deep. There will be 16 lockers in the location adjacent to the walkway to the launch.

Lockers are available now on a first-come basis and may be leased by visiting the park office (250 Pine Lake Ave.) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 219-326-9600.

Would work if a person could paddle 12 months a year. Thanks for offering the option for sure.

This is a great idea. I sold my stand up paddle board because transporting is back and forth was a nightmare.

Are there different rates for city residents vs. non-residents?

I’ve alway thought that Laporte was missing the mark with the beautiful Lakes and beach. I think this is a step in the right direction. I hope they look into kayak rentals and food truck parking spots. There is a lot of potential. That being said, I do think that the price for the kayak storage is expensive and hope there is a discount for local residents.
