LCSO musician highlight: Mike Scheck

Originally from northeast Ohio, La Porte County Symphony Orchestra member Mike Scheck studied music at Bowling Green State University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007 with a triple major in Music Education, Trumpet Performance and Music Composition. He went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Western Illinois University.

At Western Illinois, Mike met his wife, Carey. (Carey was the LCSO’s piano soloist on the recent performance of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”).

Mike has been with both the LCSO and the La Porte City Band since 2013. He has also been the band director at South Central Community Schools in La Porte County since 2011.

Mike and Carey live in La Porte with their son, Rowan, as well as their dog, Ziggy. In his spare time, Mike enjoys cooking, hiking, rooting for Cleveland sports teams and playing the guitar.

    Mr. Scheck is my favorite son-in-law! He is an amazing husband and father to his wife and son. I am very proud of him! Of course he’s a gifted and talented musician and teacher! Kudos!
