Chicago man arrested after car chase

Information from La Porte County Sheriff’s Office

A Chicago man was arrested after being spotted driving the wrong way on Ind. 2, then leading police on a chase.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office reported that on March 29 at about 2 a.m., a New Carlisle Police officer advised he was trying to stop the motorist who was fleeing west in the eastbound lanes of Ind. 2 in the area of CR 900 East.  The chase continued west on U.S. 20 from Ind. 2.

Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Howell joined in the chase near U.S. 20 and CR-350E. The motorist avoided two sets of tire deflation devices that had been deployed at U.S. 20 and Fail Road and at U.S. 20 and U.S. 35.

The vehicle merged onto I-94 where the chase continued westbound.  The motorist avoided another set of deflation devices at the 34-mile marker.  At the 25-mile marker, his car finally traveled over yet another set of deflation devices and his driver’s side front tire came loose from the rim. The car spun out of control in front of Sgt. Jon Burger’s patrol car and struck the driver’s side, then stopped. Neither Burger nor Flagg was injured.

The driver was identified as Michael Flagg, 36. He was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony), Criminal Recklessness (Class B-Misdemeanor) and Reckless Driving (Class C-Misdemeanor).  He was being held in La Porte County Jail on a $755 cash-only bond.

Assisting: Deputy Mike Walker, Deputy David Grimberg, Indiana State Police, Porter County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan City Police, and Burns Harbor Police.

When you guys gonna learn that it never pays to run from the police? By the time you get caught, the charges are always worse.

Actually it does pay on the small chance you get away. $755 bond along with only a level 6 felony & 2 misdemeanors. Plead the felony down & boom no big issue. Penalties need strengthed to prevent
