Cougars softball team downs Michigan City in slugfest

New Prairie defeated Michigan City, 17-11, Monday at MC.

Karli Gayton had 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs, 1 double and 1 single. Layla Banks kept the rally going by scoring 3 more runs for the Cougars, hammering 2 singles and 1 double. Emma Luther caught fire and went 5/5, tagging 3 singles, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. Georgia Pumroy doubled in the 6th and 7th innings and collected an RBI to put the Cougars on top for the win.

The Cougars’ next game is April 1 at 4:30 p.m. at Valpo.

NP junior varsity falls to South Central, 16-15

In Saturday’s close game, New Prairie’s Makayla Willoughby hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd and had 3 RBIs. Layla Banks hit 2 doubles, 2 singles and had an RBI. Aliyah Dawson and Camryn Nick pitched a solid game for the Cougars.

Slicer JV team will host Westville April 12

The Slicer JV softball game vs. Westville will now be played Monday, April 12, at 4:30 p.m. at Kesling Park.

South Central defeats New Prairie in softball

On Thursday, South Central defeated the Cougars, 8-7, on the Satellites’ home field.

It was a very tight game and the Lady Cougars never gave up. In the 1st, Carli Tharp walked and Malkayla Collins hit one deep to center, getting a RBI. The girls held South Central to no runs in the 1st with Delanie Bronner throwing a looking strikeout and Abby Robanowski assisting in a throw to 2nd to Alyssa Forys for the out. In the 2nd, South Central put a run on the board to tie the game. In the 4th, the Cougars came out with strong offense and capitalized on a few errors. Sage Mougin got an RBI and Adriana Bibian singled with 2 RBIs, putting the Cougars up. SC answered with a run.

In the 5th, Delanie Bronner struck out 2 and the Cougars held the Satellites to 1 run. At that point the Cougars were up by 3 runs. But South Central’s bats came alive in the 6th, adding 5 runs. Haley Dawson pitched 2 K’s and Abby assisted in another throw to get the out stealing 2nd. The Lady Cougars were down 2 runs going into the 7th. Carli Tharp singled and was driven in by Allison Pavlick with a hit to right center. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to win the game.
