LP Inclusion and Diversity Committee denounces recent racism targeted toward Asian Americans

Editor’s note: Below is a statement submitted by the City of La Porte Inclusion and Diversity Committee (formerly known as the Human Rights Commission) in response to the recent increase in violence against Asian Americans throughout the nation:

This past year, the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has raised our awareness of the growing wave of Asian intimidation and even violence in our country. There have been increased reports of verbal and physical assaults against Asian Americans. While violence of any kind is wrong, the violence of racism is a particular evil that must be condemned in our society.

The La Porte Inclusion and Diversity Committee denounces any kind of intimidation, hatred and violence particularly based on race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. We offer our support to the Asian families and friends of those who are affected and continue to support their communities who may feel unsafe or targeted at this time.

We support all victims of racial violence, intimidation and discrimination, and stand in solidarity with our Asian population and all those most vulnerable in our community.
