Rider in traveling motorcycle group is killed in accident

Press release from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office
On April 3, 2021, at 4:02 p.m., deputies were summoned to the intersection of CR-400W and CR-1000S, rural Noble Township, regarding a crash involving two motorcycles. Deputy Ryan Doperalski arrived and found two people injured.
The initial crash investigation determined the following had occurred: A group of approximately 60 motorcyclists were traveling south on CR-400W, slowing down and preparing to turn right (west) onto CR-1000S. Nicholas Kolosci, 61, of Hobart, was operating a 2015 BMW motorcycle near the end of the group. A witness saw Kolosci swerve left, then right and lay the motorcycle down onto its side. Kolosci was thrown in front of the motorcycle.
A 2008 Harley-Davidson driven by Robert G. Shepard, 60, of Valparaiso, was traveling behind Kolosci. Shepard hit Kolosci’s cycle that was lying in the road and was thrown from his cycle.
Both Kolosci and Shepard sustained upper body injuries. They were both being transported to an area hospital for treatment, but en route, Shepard died.
Toxicology test results are pending.

    OK, just for you.
To be technical … the passenger side of a motorcycle is the back.

I rode for years and loved the feeling of riding in the fresh air taking in the scenery. That being said, my eyes were always scanning the surroundings and looking out for those in four or more wheel vehicles who weren’t paying attention! My sincere condolences to Mr. Shepard’s family as well as his riding family.
