Slicer baseball team downs Valpo, 2-0

The Slicers won their DAC opener versus Valparaiso, 2-0, Tuesday at Schreiber Field.

La Portes won behind Cam Worthington’s complete-game shutout. Worthington had 13 Ks and 3 walks. Kade Flores had a double and Gavin Zolvinski came through with a clutch RBI single.

New Prairie edged by Hobart, 8-7, on the diamond

On Monday, New Prairie lost a close one to Hobrt, 8-7, in the Cougars’ season opener. The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the 7th to take a 7-6 lead, only to see Hobart answer with two runs in the bottom of the 7th to win.

Noah Brettin threw 5 1/3 innings, striking out 9. Braydon Flagg threw the final 1 1/3 innings without giving up an earned run while striking out 1. Leading the offense were Zach Trojanowski with 2 hits and Adin Newman with 2 hits, including a 2-out, 2-RBI base hit to give the Cougars the lead in the 6th. Brettin also contributed 2 RBI.

LP softball squad defeats Chesterton, 2-0

The Slicers defeated Chesterton, 2-0, on Tuesday. La Porte was nearly flawless in the field.

Outfielders Nikki Burke, Abbey Vergin and Madison McGuire did not make a single mistake and were the key to victory. Becca Marxman had two hits. Reghan Stephany and Regan Hague both had an RBI. Hague had another phenomenal outing on the rubber with eight K’s and only allowed three hits. Hague pitched a complete game shutout.

New Prairie softball team trounces LaVille, 19-1

Great batting and defense were the keys to New Prairie’s easy victory. For the Cougars:

Abby Robakowski: 2 home runs and a single with 4 RBIs
Allison Pavllick: 3 doubles and a single with 5 RBIs
Malkayla Collins: single home run and had 4 RBIs
Sadie Sheipline: double and had 2 RBIs
Mackenzie Brown: single and a double and 2 RBIs
Haley Dawson: single and 1 RBI
Adriana Bibian: double and 1 RBI
Haley Dawson and Adriana Bibian both pitched great games.
