Join 9th annual Walk to Prevent Child Abuse on April 20

The 9th annual Walk to Prevent Child Abuse, organized by La Porte First United Methodist Church, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20. The walk begins at the church parking lot,

1225 Michigan Ave. Participants will walk together as a group down Indiana Avenue to the courthouse, where community leaders will address the importance of child protection. Mayor Tom Dermody, Family Advocates Chief Executive Officer Karen Biernacki, Dunebrook Executive Director Jeanne Ann Cannon, and Juvenile Magistrate Johnathan Forker are expected to speak.

Everyone is encouraged to wear blue as a symbol of child abuse prevention. Those unable to walk can join the group on the southwest lawn of the courthouse. Following the speeches, participants will return to the church for a light meal and community fellowship.

Children are our future and we share the responsibility for ensuring that all parents and families have access to support. Walk to bring community awareness to this important subject. Help break the cycle of abuse. Please join in! Call the church at (219)-362-2443 for more details.
