LCSO musician highlight: Kristen Hughes

Kristen Hughes started violin lessons at the age of 3 with the Betty Haag Suzuki Academy. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northern Illinois University and her Master of Music Education degree from Vandercook College of Music.

Kristen has performed throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe with various orchestras and ensembles. She is in her 5th year with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra and plays in either the violin or viola section. In addition to the LCSO, Kristen performs with the South Shore Orchestra and for churches, weddings and other functions. She is the orchestra director at Robert A. Taft Middle School in the Crown Point Community School Corporation and loves giving back the love of playing musical instruments to new generations of children.

In her spare time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her 2 dogs and 2 cats, riding her motorcycle, traveling, fishing and swimming. Like many other musicians in the LCSO, she is very excited to be a part of the orchestra in upcoming seasons with new Music Director Carolyn Watson.
