La Porte Lions action, April 13, 2021


La Porte Lions met April 13, 2021, at the Eagles. Boss Lion Barb Smeltzer led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Sandra Provan offered prayer.
Provan read the minutes of the March 9, 2021, meeting. Lion Tom Ruda proposed and Lion Doug Buell seconded a motion to approve, which passed.
Correspondence: Youth Service Bureau requested a donation to its Bowl for School Buddies fundraiser May 21, 2021. Lion Diane Spoljoric proposed a donation of $300, seconded by Ruda; the motion passed. Lions Clubs International sent a Diamond Centennial Award to Smeltzer.
The financial report from treasurer Lion John Spiggle for February and March showed balances of $21,024.58 in the Alert Service Fund; $477.51 in the Administrative Fund and $5,059.69 in a CD. Ruda proposed, Lion Oscar Ryl-Kuchar seconded a motion to approve the report, which passed.
Old Business: Ruda said the scholarship committee had chosen four recipients from La Porte High School, three from the Lions, one from the Leos. He will present the scholarships April 26.
Ryl-Kuchar said they are working on the Lions eyeglass box that needs repair; he has taken a box to La Porte Walmart. He took the bottle tops the club had collected to South Bend Career Academy. The club also bought new batteries for a scooter.
Spoljoric said the District Convention went well, COVID compliant, and bylaws were updated. Lion Paul Marsh said Spoljoric gave an excellent report of what La Porte Lions have done.
The nomination committee presented the following slate for 2021-22: president, Spoljoric; vice president, Ryl-Kuchar; treasurer, Spiggle; secretary, Provan. Ruda proposed acceptance of the slate, Buell seconded and the motion passed. The slate was then read twice more and will be reported to Lions Clubs International.
Lions Alert: Marsh said the service needs a dedicated line at Northwest Health and from October on, the units will need a 10-digit number. Ryl-Kuchar proposed buying 20 new units, subject to discount, Ruda seconded the motion, which passed.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 11, 5:30 p.m. social, 6 p.m. business, at the Eagles.
