Fire destroyed a new home in the 2000 North block of Forrester Road Sunday afternoon, April 25, in rural La Porte County. The family was able to escape the fire and no injuries were reported to them or the approximately 20 firefighters who responded from several departments.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. to find the home, which is several hundred yards off the road, already partially destroyed. Water was trucked to the scene. It took firefighters more than an hour to gain control of the fast-moving fire, which destroyed a large portion of the newly constructed home.

Coolspring Township Fire Chief Mick Pawlik told WNLP that the cause was not immediately known, but they believed the origin was near the north wall of the house.
As of 7 p.m., firefighters were still at the site putting out hotspots. Responding departments were Coolspring, Kankakee, Westville, Springfield and Center. Other area departments were placed on standby. La Porte County deputies also responded and the La Porte County EMS had EMTS and an ambulance on standby at the scene.

If/when you have info about things that are urgently needed, including sizes, could you please tell your readers? Plus, a drop-off place. Judging from past events such as this, La Porteans love to help!

This was my daughter’s and her fiance’s, new built dream home. They managed to get out, along with their cat and dog. This devistation took everything, including vehicals in their garage. As soon as I have more info, I will pass it along. Thank you for your generosity!
