Knox man killed, La Porte man injured in U.S. 35 head-on crash

 

A Knox man was killed and a La Porte man was injured in a head-on crash on north U.S. 35 Monday morning, April 26.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, Corbin Gayheart, 51, of Knox, was driving a Volkswagen in the 3900 north block of U.S. 35, Center Township, at about 11:45 a.m. when his northbound car crossed the center line and hit a southbound Dodge pickup truck driven by Michael Meyer, 55, of La Porte. The pickup was pulling a trailer.

Gayheart was pronounced dead at the scene. Meyer was trapped in his truck and required extrication. La Porte EMS then transported him to a hospital.

U.S. 35 was closed in both directions for about 3 1/2 hours for the crash investigation, debris field cleanup and removal of the vehicles.

Toxicology test results are pending, according to the sheriff’s office.
