Brockman is scheduled to be sentenced May 20.

This was the first conviction in LaPorte County on a state law passed in 2018 establishing the charge of Dealing in a Controlled Substance Causing Death, said Lt. Tim Richardson, commander of the La Porte County Drug Task Force.

Richardson commended Chief Deputy Prosecutor Bethany Beckman, who presented the case. “Mrs. Beckman worked tirelessly throughout this 1 1/2-year investigation leading up to, and including, weeks of trial preparation, and ultimately the conviction,” Richardson said. He also commended Prosecutor John Lake for allowing his staff to prosecute and take to trial such cases.

Richardson who served as lead detective in the case, said the drug task force will continue to file such cases in the courts when sufficient probable cause is developed.

The La Porte County Drug Task Force has been an initiative of the Indiana High Intensity Drug  Trafficking Area, a federally funded program, since 2017.
