Platoon of volunteers rebuilds 110-foot bike bridge in 1 day

La Porte Park Department story and photos

Thanks to an incredible turnout on Sunday, April 25, volunteers were able to rebuild a 110-foot-long bridge on the Soldiers Memorial Park mountain bike trails. The work was made possible thanks to a $3,000 donation of materials by the Northern Indiana Mountain Bike Association .

According to the NIMBA Facebook page, “Hands down this is the best bridge feature anywhere around the area. The end even allows you to choose between a simple ride off the deck to dirt or a drop to a transition.” (Please use caution if riding the trails this week as the bridge still needs some finishing work.)

Special thanks to local coordinator Bill Lott and NIMBA President Matt Flournoy for coordinating the volunteer effort.

Last week, the La Porte Park and Recreation Board approved signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the park department and NIMBA to ensure future collaboration for maintenance and promotion of the mountain bike trails.
