Despite the restrictions of COVID-19, the La Porte Lions have continued to live up to the organization’s motto, “We Serve.”
In November, the club donated $150 worth of food to the Purdue Northwest food pantry.
Spearheaded by Lion Diane Spoljoric, the club sold Christmas greenery for delivery at the end of November. The profit from the sale was $1,267. A give-back day at La Porte’s Culver’s restaurant brought in $90.
The Lions decided to match the profits with funds from Lions Alert and to give gift certificates to front-line employees at the seven local Family Express gas stations.
In January, Lion Paul Marsh suggested buying $1,000 worth of gift certificates from small local restaurants, which would help those businesses, and to give them to Center Township Trustee Lisa Pierzakowski to distribute to needy families.
La Porte Lions meet the second Tuesday of the month at the Eagles on McClung Road, with a social meeting at 5:30 p.m. and a business meeting at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to come to the next meeting, Tuesday, May 11, or call Boss Lion Barb Smeltzer at 219-575-9790 to learn more about the world’s largest service organization.
