MC man who led officers on foot chase is charged with dealing cocaine, illegal possession of gun


La Porte County Drug Task Force information


The La Porte County Drug Task Force announces the  arrest of Omar Glover, Jr., 21, of Michigan City on gun and drug charges. Glover was arrested  by Michigan City Police April 27, 2021, after a foot chase.

Detectives  from the task force and MCPD officers were working a Violent Crimes Reduction Initiative when they spotted Glover riding in a car in the area of Pine and 11th streets. In the 100 block of east 11th Street, Officer Matthew Babcock stopped the car. The driver complied but Glover got out of the car and ran. Lt. Tim  Richardson, Cpl. Kyle Shiparski and Detective James Fish chased him and nothced that he was keeping his right hand near his waistband. Eventually a gun fell from his body.

With K-9 Edo chasing him, Glover tried to climb a chain-link fence but his pants got caught on top of the fence. After losing his pants and falling to the ground, he surrendered. 

Glover was charged with Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit. He has a previous conviction on the same charge, which raises the new charge to a Level  5 Felony. He was also charged with Possession of Marijuana (A Misdemeanor) and Resisting Law Enforcement (A Misdemeanor).  

On April 30, Glover was also charged with one count of Dealing in Cocaine, Level 3 Felony, and 3 counts of dealing in cocaine, Level 4 felonies, through a separate task force yearlong investigation.

Also assisting in the arrest of Glover were Corporal Brian Wright, Detective Dana Ford and  Officers Adam Brinkman and Jesus Alvarez.
