Park department offers wheel pottery throwing classes in May, June

The art of wheel throwing is both a therapeutic and expressive way to create pottery. These La Porte Park and Recreation Department classes focus solely on  techniques in throwing clay forms on a pottery wheel.

Students will learn to apply aesthetics, proper thickness and craftsmanship needed to make functional pottery. You’ll be guided by local artist Alayna Bublitz, who has a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with a concentration in ceramics. Learn the process of making, decorating and glazing your work.

This 7-week course offers two evening options: Thursdays beginning May 13, and Mondays beginning June 7. All  classes are held in the Ceramics Room at the La Porte Civic Auditorium from 6 to 8 p.m. Please enter the door at the corner of Plain and Woodward streets. Face coverings and social distancing are required.

Class size will be limited, so pre-register now by calling the park office at 219-326-9600 or stop in at 250 Pine Lake Ave. The fee for the session is $81 and includes 8 lbs. of clay.
