Development groups teaming up to study county firms’ wages, benefits

The La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership, the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City and the La Porte County Office of Community and Economic Development are working with others to study the county’s wages and benefits.

The three groups are collaborating with the South Bend–Elkhart Regional Partnership and others on the South Bend–Elkhart Regional Wages and Benefits Survey. The survey is open through June 15 and is aimed at gathering key components of what businesses are offering their employees.

Employers are encouraged to participate by visiting bit.ly/2021wagesandbenefits.

The confidential survey will compile information on benefits, including health insurance plans and costs, time off, retirement plans, financial incentives, and workplace practices, such as training opportunities, wellness incentives and childcare assistance.

“The knowledge of what wages and benefits employers are offering is crucial to keeping our region competitive,” said Michigan City group Executive Director Clarence L. Hulse. “We are striving for strong participation in this vital survey, and all businesses that take part will receive the results and have access to this key data.”

The benefits survey will be combined with curated wage data published by EMSi, a labor market analytics firm, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics to deliver a comprehensive 2021 wages and benefits report for the South Bend – Elkhart region, which will be available to all participants in August 2021.
