Jerry Wallace, 1938-2021

 

Jerry Dean Wallace, 83, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Monday, May 3, 2021.

He was born March 16, 1938, in La Porte to Milton Lewis Wallace and Hazel Rose Grieger.

Jerry graduated from La Porte High School in 1956 and served in the United States Army after graduation. Later, Jerry worked for Bethlehem Steel and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Purdue University. Most recently, he was the co-owner with his wife and president of Parcel Port on Michigan Avenue in La Porte. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a beloved member of the community.

Jerry married Marlene Ann Larson on Oct. 14, 1961, at St. Peter Parish in La Porte, and together they had six children, Mary Elizabeth (William) Power of La Porte, Joanna Marie (Michael) Connors of Beverly Shores, Ind., John Paul  Wallace (Karen Nicholls) of East Lansing, Mich., Peter John Wallace (Kelye Martin) of Syracuse, Ind., Timothy John Wallace of Indianapolis, Ind., and Margaret Mary Wallace-McDonald of St. John, Fla.; grandchildren, Broc Power, Marlee Power, Theresa Connors, Christopher Wallace, Danyl Wallace Brown, Erin Wallace Curry, Dylan Wallace, Anna Wallace, Jack Wallace, and Thomas McDonald; and a great-grandson, Ashe Brown. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Lewis Arnold, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church, La Porte. Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1110 Monroe St., La Porte, Ind. 46350, or the Salvation Army.

      Another friend is gone! To Maggie & Jerry’s kids & grandkids: I am very sorry for your loss. But they would ask us not to be sad, for they are together once again in heaven.
