INDOT announces lane-ramp closures for U.S. 20/35, I-94

INDOT press release

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane and ramp closures for the U.S. 20/35 and I-94 interchange for bridge painting beginning Wednesday, May 19.

I-94 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at this interchange from approximately 6 p.m. on May 19 to 7 a.m. on May 20 to set up the traffic configuration for this project. Starting on the morning of May 20, I-94 will have two open lanes in each direction.

The ramp from eastbound U.S. 20 to westbound I-94 will be closed. Motorists can use the cloverleaf ramps as a detour by taking the ramp to eastbound I-94, then the ramp to westbound U.S. 20, followed by the ramp to westbound I-94.

This project will be ongoing through mid-September, 2021. Painting is one of many preservation techniques utilized by INDOT to extend the life of bridge structures. Prior to painting, beams and other components are sandblasted to remove existing rust and the new coat of paint acts as a sealant to protect from water, salt and other chemicals that may cause corrosion.

INDOT urges drivers to stay alert near crews and follow traffic directions carefully. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when driving through this area. Drivers should slow down and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
